Maria Sibylla Merian was the first woman to journey to the Americas for scientific purposes and one of the leading entomologists of the Enlightenment.In 1705, she published Metamorphosis Maria Sibylla Merian (2 April – 13 January ) [1] was a German entomologist, naturalist and scientific illustrator. She was one of the earliest European naturalists to document observations about insects directly.
